VT Namnueng is the Udon Thani original of what has become a national chain. The signature dish is the namnueng wrap: grilled pork sausages that you assemble yourself with rice paper, herbs, banana flower, green mango, garlic, and chillies, then dip in a sweet-sour peanut sauce. The first attempt is messy; by the fourth you understand why local families queue.
The branches around the city are large and lively, full of Thai-Vietnamese flavours and small dishes — fresh spring rolls, banh xeo, fried fish cakes. Prices are extremely reasonable and the queue moves quickly.
