Huai Tueng Thao Reservoir is a local escape northwest of Chiang Mai, set among low hills and woodland. The simple bamboo huts along the water are the classic scene: groups of friends eating, resting, and looking out over the reservoir.
It is a relaxed stop rather than a headline attraction. Go when you want a slower afternoon outside the old city, especially if you have your own transport and want something more local than another temple circuit.
