Sunday Walking Street

Every Sunday evening from around 4pm, the streets running west from Tha Phae Gate through the old city close to traffic and fill with one of Chiang Mai's best markets. The Sunday Walking Street is a more local, more relaxed affair than the Night Bazaar — vendors are mostly small-scale artisans, with handmade silver jewellery, hand-painted textiles, ceramics, and woodcarvings dominating.

Food stalls set up throughout, selling pad thai, mango sticky rice, grilled meats, and fresh juices. Street musicians play at intervals. The market runs for several kilometres and takes a couple of hours to walk through properly. It gets crowded from about 6pm onward; arriving early gives you more space and first pick of the goods.
