Chiang Rai's bar and cafe scene is small and relaxed. The area around the night market has several open-air bars that stay lively until midnight or later. Elsewhere in the city, coffee culture has taken hold — there are good cafes along the riverside and in the streets north of the clock tower, often with garden seating and a pace that invites staying longer than planned.
