Hasan Dağı

Twin-peaked dormant volcano south of Aksaray, rising above the Central Anatolian plateau.

Hasan Dağı is the great volcanic shape on Aksaray's southern horizon. Its higher west summit reaches 3,253 metres, but because it rises from an already high plateau the mountain looks broad and self-contained rather than Alpine.

The usual approach is from the north, with rough roads leading towards the trailhead. The climb is not technical in good conditions, but the altitude, wind, and lingering snow make it a real mountain day. Even if you do not climb, the volcano gives Aksaray's countryside a strong identity.
