Tuz Gölü is one of Turkey's strangest landscapes: a huge shallow salt lake that can look like a white desert in summer and a sky mirror when a thin sheet of water remains. It is also an important stop for migratory birds when the lagoons hold water.
The easiest access from Aksaray is along the Ankara road, where informal tracks and roadside stops lead towards the salt flats. Wear shoes you can rinse, bring sunglasses, and do not stop on the busy highway itself just because the surface looks tempting.
