The Church of Saint Peter is a cave cut into the hillside northeast of the centre. Tradition links it with St Peter's preaching in Antioch, where the followers of Jesus were first called Christians.
The earliest surviving fabric is later, probably fourth or fifth century, and the Crusaders enlarged the cave around 1100. The stone facade is nineteenth-century, but the rough cave interior still feels closer to a refuge than a formal church.
