Knidos is the reason many travellers make the long drive west from Datça. The ancient city occupied the very end of the peninsula, using two natural harbours and a position that made it important to traders, sailors, and later archaeologists.
The ruins are spread out and atmospheric rather than complete: theatre seats, harbour remains, city walls, a sundial, and the traces of the sanctuary associated with the famous Aphrodite of Knidos. The setting does much of the work. Bring water, sun protection, and enough time to walk slowly before turning back toward town.
