Demirköy Foundry is an unusually concrete reminder that this quiet forest town once mattered to the Ottoman state. The complex processed local iron and copper ore, with water power, workshops, worker accommodation, and a mosque forming an industrial village in the hills.
The ruins are rough rather than polished, but they are the most distinctive sight close to town. They also explain the name Demirköy, meaning "iron village."
