Aytap

Aytap, or ancient Iotape, is a small ruin-and-cove stop on the coast road between Alanya and Gazipasa. Remains of the old port city sit around a narrow bay, making it one of those Turkish Mediterranean places where a swim and a fragment of antiquity share the same hour.

It is worth stopping if you have your own transport. The site is not heavily managed, so bring shoes, sun protection, and a little caution around loose stone and roadside parking.

A story
Ancient Iotape was named for Queen Iotapa, a member of the Commagenian royal family connected to the early Roman imperial world. Today the site feels less royal than wind-scoured: a narrow cove, stones underfoot, and the old coast road twisting above it.
