Halfeti's old Great Mosque is the town's best-known flooded landmark. Part of the building sits in the water, and the minaret has become the shorthand image of old Halfeti after the dam.
You can see it from the riverside, but it is more atmospheric from a boat, where the waterline makes clear how much of the old settlement was lost.
