Mudanya Armistice House

Waterfront mansion where the 1922 armistice helped end the Turkish War of Independence.

The Mudanya Armistice House is the town's essential stop. The late 19th-century waterfront mansion was where the Mudanya Armistice was signed in October 1922, after the Turkish War of Independence and before the Treaty of Lausanne settled the new republic's international position.

Inside, the rooms are arranged as a small museum of the negotiations. It is not large, but it gives Mudanya a stronger claim than most Marmara port towns: this was one of the rooms where modern Turkey's borders began to become real.
