Tirilye

Former Greek fishing village west of Mudanya, with stone lanes and old churches.

Tirilye is the best wander west of Mudanya: a small port village of old stone and timber houses, once mainly Greek before the population exchange of the 1920s. Its lanes are more atmospheric than central Mudanya's and make the Marmara coast feel older and quieter.

The headline building is the former Church of St Stephen, now Fatih Mosque, whose history reaches back to the Byzantine era. Tirilye is still modest, but it is the stop that turns Mudanya from a single-museum visit into a proper half-day.
