Niğde Castle occupies the old high point of the city, with a clock tower and scattered walls looking over the centre. The surviving fabric is patched and mixed, but the site is still the natural place to begin.
Come here for orientation rather than romance. From the hill you can see how the old mosques, market streets, and newer city fit together on the Anatolian plain.
