Sinop's old walls are the best way to understand why the town mattered. They cross the isthmus and run along the harbour, patched and reused by different powers that needed this Black Sea shelter.
Walk them slowly, then drop to the waterfront. The commercial harbour and fishing boats keep the city from becoming a museum piece, and the fortress feels more convincing when seen as part of a working port.
