Gok Medrese

Gok Medrese is Sivas's most graceful Seljuk building, built in 1271 for the powerful vizier Sahip Ata Fahrettin Ali. Its name means "blue" or "celestial" madrasa, a nod to the turquoise tilework that still lifts the stone facade.

The twin minarets, carved portal, and courtyard make it the best single stop in the city for Seljuk architecture. It has been restored as a museum, but the building matters more than the exhibits. Give yourself time to look closely at the stonework around the entrance.
