St Paul's Well

Pilgrimage garden around a deep well traditionally associated with St Paul's birthplace.

St Paul's Well stands in a small garden in the old quarter, close to the area traditionally identified with the apostle's birthplace. The well descends around 38 metres, and visitors still draw water from it, a simple ritual that gives the site more feeling than its modest size suggests.

The surrounding lanes of old Tarsus are part of the experience. Come here on foot from the Grand Mosque or Tarsus Museum, and give yourself time to wander rather than treating the well as a quick photograph.
