The public ferry from Eminönü (or Beşiktaş) up the Bosphorus to Anadolu Kavağı is one of the best-value sightseeing trips in the world. For the price of a regular ferry ticket you sail the entire length of the strait, past Ottoman palaces, wooden mansions, fortresses, and the commuter villages on both shores, before reaching the Black Sea entrance. The full round trip takes most of a day; the boat waits at Anadolu Kavağı long enough for lunch. The regular commuter ferries between Asian and European shores are also excellent viewpoints, particularly at dusk.
