Khalidiya

The dense old residential and shopping district on the western side of the main island, behind the western end of the Corniche. The streets are dotted with the better independent Lebanese and Pakistani restaurants in the city, the Khalidiya Mall sits at its centre, and the side roads down to the Corniche are walkable in the cooler months.

This is the part of Abu Dhabi that has the most lived-in feel — small grocers, neighbourhood mosques, mid-rise apartment blocks. It is where expatriates who can't afford Saadiyat live, and where some of the best informal eating happens.
