The compact downtown district around Qasr Al Hosn, between Khalifa Street and the Corniche. As well as the fort itself, the district contains the Cultural Foundation (an arts complex housed in the former national library), the House of Artisans, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Mosque.
The streets around it preserve some of the 1970s-era low-rise architecture from Abu Dhabi's earliest urban phase — pale concrete with shaded arcades, a far cry from the glass towers elsewhere. Most walkable district in the city.
