Tucked along Ajman Creek, the dhow yard is one of the last working traditional shipyards in the UAE. Carpenters work in the open air, shaping teak ribs and planks for fishing dhows and the larger cargo boum that still ply the routes to Iran, Yemen and the east African coast. There are no signs, no tickets — you walk up and watch, asking permission before taking close-up photos of the workers.
A short visit (30 minutes is plenty) but a memorable one, and a useful corrective to the impression that the Emirates ditched all its pre-oil trades years ago. Cross from here to the Ajman Museum for the full historic-Ajman loop.
