Kyrk-Kyz Fortress is one of the atmospheric ruins around Termez, a square, mud-brick complex standing in the dry landscape beyond the modern city. Its name is often translated as 'forty girls', and local legends have attached themselves to the site as strongly as the archaeology.
The fortress is worth visiting as part of a broader Termez circuit with Fayaz Tepe, Kara Tepe, and the archaeological museum. Go for the shape, silence, and sense of frontier history rather than for restored rooms or detailed interpretation on site.
