Ben Duoc Tunnels

Ben Duoc is the more authentic and less visited of the two Cu Chi tunnel sites. It sits further from Ho Chi Minh City, which means most group tours bypass it in favour of Ben Dinh — a significant advantage for visitors who make the extra effort. The experience here is quieter, more contemplative, and involves more walking through jungle between tunnel entrances.

The underground sections have been slightly widened to allow foreign visitors to pass, as at Ben Dinh, but the overall atmosphere feels less managed. Above ground, the jungle has reclaimed much of the terrain, and the walk between exhibits gives a clearer sense of what it meant to move through this landscape during the war.

On the site stands the Ben Duoc Temple, a large memorial complex built to honour the Vietnamese fighters killed in the American War. The temple is an active place of remembrance, visited by families of those who died, and gives Ben Duoc a solemnity that Ben Dinh lacks. It is worth spending time here even if you have already visited the tunnels at Ben Dinh.
