Ben Dinh Tunnels

Ben Dinh is the more accessible and heavily visited of the two Cu Chi tunnel sites, about 35 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Almost all organised tours from HCMC's Pham Ngu Lao backpacker district come here, which means crowds are larger than at Ben Duoc — but the facilities and interpretation are also more developed.

Every visit begins with a documentary film, shot in the 1960s, that provides essential historical context for what you are about to see. It is propagandist in tone and all the more fascinating for that. The underground tour that follows shows kitchens, meeting rooms, and weapon workshops — a functioning community that existed for years beneath a landscape being bombed into rubble above. The passages are tight even after widening; tall visitors will spend much of the tour bent double.

Above ground, guides demonstrate the camouflage techniques that made tunnel entrances effectively invisible, and preserved bomb craters and captured American military equipment are on display throughout the site.
