Halong City is sprawling and not walkable between its two main areas. The Bai Chay Bridge connects the western tourist strip (Bai Chay) with the eastern administrative and residential area (Hon Gai). Grab (Vietnam's ride-hailing app) works reliably in Halong City and is the easiest way to move around — taxis are plentiful but negotiate the fare or insist on the meter. The Tuan Chau marina is about 6 km west of Bai Chay; most cruise operators offer transfer buses from Hanoi directly to the marina.
