Bãi Cháy Bridge

A striking cable-stayed bridge connecting the Hon Gai and Bai Chay districts of Halong City across the Cua Luc estuary. The asymmetric single-tower design is the city's most recognisable landmark from the water. Pedestrian access is available via dedicated walkways alongside the road deck.

The view from the bridge midpoint — looking south into the bay with the karst islands behind and the industrial harbour in the foreground — gives a useful orientation to Halong City's two distinct personalities: the working coal port and the tourist gateway. Best in the early morning or at dusk when the light softens the industrial elements.

A story
The bridge was an engineering landmark when it opened in 2006 — at the time the longest single-pylon cable-stayed bridge in Southeast Asia. Walking or cycling across it gives the most accessible elevated view of the bay available without going on a cruise. The main pylon rises 150 metres above the water.
