Tu Lan Cave System

The Tu Lan system is the most adventure-oriented cave experience in the park accessible without booking many months ahead. Tours range from a single day to four days, all involving a combination of trekking, river swimming, and cave exploration. The caves themselves are less dramatically large than Hang En or Son Doong, but the experience of moving through them by water — floating on your back through passages where the ceiling skims the surface — is unlike anything else in the park.

The Tu Lan loop trips are operated by Oxalis and include nights in jungle camps beside the river. The one-day version gives a taste; the multi-day trips allow deeper exploration of the system. This is the best option for visitors who want genuine adventure without the year-long wait or the budget required for Son Doong.

A story
The Tu Lan system, comprising over ten linked caves, was almost entirely unknown outside the local farming community until it was surveyed by British cavers in 2010. Several caves can only be entered by swimming — you clip a dry bag to your body and pull yourself through the current.
