Gundabooka National Park is the strongest day trip from Bourke. South of town, it protects red ranges, dry plains, and Aboriginal rock art sites that give the area a deeper history than the river-port story alone.
The highway approach is sealed, but roads inside the park can be rough dirt. Ask locally before going, carry water, and treat rock art sites with care.
