Old Bourke Wharf is a replica of the 1850s river wharf from the days when Bourke was expected to become a major inland port. Paddle steamers did work the Darling, but snags, low water, and distance made the dream short-lived.
Today the wharf is more museum piece than working riverfront, but it is still the best place in town to picture the old river trade.
