Mount Grenfell Historic Site protects important Aboriginal rock art by the local Wongaibon people, along with scarred trees, ochre pits, and a waterhole. Three art sites are reached by short walks from the main parking area, with interpretation on site.
This is the Cobar area's best anchor beyond mining. Go with time, water, and respect: the art is not decoration for a road trip photo, but evidence of a living cultural landscape that long predates the town.
