Cowra Japanese Garden

Large Japanese strolling garden created as a symbol of reconciliation after the Cowra Breakout.

The Cowra Japanese Garden is the town's most graceful attraction: 12.5 acres of clipped hedges, water, bridges, stones, and seasonal colour designed in the style of an Edo-period strolling garden. It was built to mark the relationship between Cowra and Japan after the wartime deaths connected with the POW camp.

It is not just a pretty garden bolted onto a country town. The path system, cultural centre, tea house, and cherry-blossom season all make the place feel like the heart of Cowra's peace story. Give it time rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.
