The Grafton Heritage Trail is the best way to read the town beyond the jacarandas. It links broad avenues, old shopfronts, civic buildings, river views, and the famous bend in the bridge into a walkable story of a prosperous Clarence River centre.
It is especially good early or late in the day, when the heat drops and the old verandahs, trees, and brickwork do more of the talking.
