The Holtermann Museum occupies two of Gulgong's earliest commercial buildings and centres on the Holtermann collection, a remarkable photographic record of New South Wales goldfields life in the 1870s. The images matter because they show the boom town while it was still raw, crowded, and temporary.
It pairs well with a walk down Mayne Street, where the surviving buildings make the old photographs feel less distant.
