Cathedral Rocks is a set of dark basalt formations at the southern end of Jones Beach, where the coast looks more sculpted than eroded. The rocks are most dramatic from the beach at low tide or from the Kiama Coast Walk above, when waves break through the gaps and the spires stand out against the water.
This is one of Kiama's best sunrise spots and a favourite for photographers, but it is not just a photo stop. The rocks make the geology of the coast obvious in a way that a headland lookout alone does not.
