Kinchega National Park

Outback national park of Darling River bends, red gums, dry lakebeds, and pastoral ruins.

Kinchega National Park is the reason Menindee is more than a dot on the Darling River. The park protects river red gums, lake margins, dry plains, Aboriginal cultural landscapes, and the remains of a huge pastoral station.

The best way to see it is slowly, stopping at river bends, old buildings, and lake lookouts as conditions allow. In good water years the birdlife can be excellent; in dry years the scale and silence of the lakebeds are the main event.
