Mount Kaputar National Park rises abruptly from the plains east of Narrabri, a remnant of a long-eroded volcano. The summit road and lookouts give wide views over inland NSW, while shorter walks lead to cliffs, forest, and odd volcanic shapes.
The park is big enough for a full day if you like walking. After rain, keep an eye out for the famously strange Mount Kaputar pink slug, one of the park's better local claims to fame.
