Sawn Rocks

Forty-metre wall of columnar basalt, reached by an easy walk in Mount Kaputar National Park.

Sawn Rocks is the quick reward near Narrabri: a short, easy track leads through creek-side woodland to a cliff of pentagonal basalt columns. The shape is natural, but it has the unnerving regularity of something cut by hand.

It is the most accessible taste of Mount Kaputar's volcanic geology. Go early or late for softer light, and bring water even though the walk is short.
