The Big Golden Guitar is the obvious Tamworth photo, a 12-metre fibreglass guitar on the New England Highway at the southern edge of the city. It is a replica of the Golden Guitar trophies awarded during the Country Music Awards of Australia, which is why it has no strings.
This is not a subtle monument, but subtlety is not the point. It fixes Tamworth's country-music identity in one clean roadside image, and the visitor centre complex beside it makes it an easy first stop.
