Cooma Cottage was the home of explorer and grazier Hamilton Hume from the 1840s until his death in 1873. The National Trust property preserves the old rural house, outbuildings, gardens, and valley setting rather than just a room of labels.
It is the best single reason to stop in Yass. The house also marks the start of the long Hume and Hovell Track, which follows the explorers' 1824 route toward Port Phillip.
