Yass Courthouse

Grand 1880 courthouse by colonial architect James Barnet, still used as a working court.

Yass Courthouse is the town's most imposing civic building, a James Barnet design completed in 1880 to replace an earlier courthouse. Its scale says a lot about Yass's nineteenth-century confidence, when wool money and traffic through the district mattered.

The building is still a working courthouse, so the visit is mainly exterior. It is best seen as part of the historic walk through the old town centre.
