Beaudesert War Memorial

A 1922 sandstone digger memorial in the centre of town, listed on the Queensland Heritage Register

In the small park at the corner of William and Brisbane streets stands the Beaudesert War Memorial, a slim sandstone monument topped by a soldier in slouch hat with rifle reversed — the standard "digger" pose adopted by hundreds of Australian country towns in the 1920s. This one was unveiled in 1922 and lists the local men who served in the First World War, with later panels added for the Second.

The memorial is heritage-listed and quietly evocative; it is the kind of monument that anchors a working country town and that travellers find more affecting than they expect. Worth a five-minute stop on the way to the museum next door.
