The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum occupies the town's former Town Hall building at 144 Goondoon Street, a handsome timber structure from 1894 that was heritage-listed when local councils began moving into more functional modern premises. The conversion is well done: the original hall's proportions have been preserved, and the building itself is as interesting to look at as what's inside.
The permanent collection focuses on Queensland art, with a reasonable representation of work by regional artists alongside touring exhibitions from major Australian galleries. The museum section covers the Gladstone region's history — the pre-colonial period, the pastoral industry, and the 20th-century industrial development that turned a small coastal town into one of Australia's largest export ports. Open Monday to Saturday; free entry.
