Geoffrey Bay Snorkel Trail

Geoffrey Bay near Arcadia is listed among the top ten snorkelling spots in Queensland. The reef here is close to shore and accessible directly from the beach — no boat required. An underwater snorkel trail is marked with buoys, guiding swimmers through coral gardens and past giant clams, tropical fish, and the shallow remains of the Moltke Wreck.

The best time to snorkel is at high tide when visibility is clearest and the water depth over the reef is most comfortable. The bay faces east, which means the water is generally calm in the morning before the afternoon sea breeze picks up. Rock wallabies also come down to the beach at Geoffrey Bay around dusk, making it worth lingering toward evening.

A story
Geoffrey Bay is home to the Moltke Wreck — the remains of a small vessel that sank near the reef and is now colonised by corals and fish. The wreck sits in shallow water and is accessible to snorkellers without any diving equipment, making it one of the most accessible wreck snorkels in Queensland.
