Mena Creek Falls

The waterfall that drew José Paronella to this spot in the 1920s spills about twelve metres over a basalt ledge into a wide pool, with the castle ruins of Paronella Park rising on the bank above. The county council maintains a small viewing platform on a free-access bridge just outside the park gate, so you can see the falls without buying a ticket — though the best vantage points are from inside the park itself. After heavy wet-season rain the creek surges and the falls roar; in the dry months they thin to a series of bright threads down the rock. The pool is not officially a swimming hole, and signs warn of crocodiles in the lower creek.
