Girraween National Park is the strongest reason to base yourself in Stanthorpe. The park protects a high-country landscape of granite slabs, arches, balancing boulders, eucalypt woodland, and wildflowers that can be excellent in spring.
Short walks reach Bald Rock Creek, Granite Arch, and the base of the Pyramid. Longer tracks head for Castle Rock and Mount Norman. Start early in hot weather, carry water, and remember that the granite can be slippery after rain.
