Joseph Banks Conservation Park

Joseph Banks Conservation Park protects the Round Hill headland above Bustard Bay. Short walking tracks lead to views over the bay, the Coral Sea, and the low coastal bush that gives 1770 its edge-of-the-map feel.

The park also carries the town's founding story. Cook's party came ashore here in May 1770, and the headland was later named for the naturalist Joseph Banks. Go early or late in the day, when the heat is softer and the water below changes colour.
