Lady Musgrave Island is the reef trip that gives 1770 its weight as more than a quiet coastal village. Boats leave from the 1770 side of the bay for the island's coral lagoon, where the draw is snorkelling, turtle-spotting, and seeing the southern Great Barrier Reef without starting from a big resort town.
It is a full-day outing and weather matters. If you have only one spare day in the area, this is the trip that most clearly changes the scale of the place.
