Hook Island

Rugged northern Whitsunday island known for quiet anchorages and snorkelling coves.

Hook Island is rougher and quieter than the resort islands, with steep forested slopes dropping into bays that are popular with sailing trips. It is one of the better places in the group to feel that you have left the mainland properly behind.

Snorkelling conditions vary with wind and visibility, but the island's coves can be rewarding on the right day. It is not a place for independent wandering unless you have the right boat access; for most visitors it is a stop on a sailing itinerary.
