Catacomb Anglican Church

The smaller of the underground churches, the Catacomb Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul (Anglican) is reached via an unassuming entrance off Catacomb Road. Inside, the nave is plain — bare sandstone walls, a wooden altar — and the effect is monastic rather than ornate. The cross above the altar is made from the rear axle of an old miner's truck.

Visitors are welcome during daylight hours. It is a calm, cool place to step into for ten minutes between other stops; well worth the small detour from the centre.
