Josephine's Gallery doubles as an Aboriginal art shop and a kangaroo orphanage — a combination that exists nowhere else and feels entirely Coober Pedy. The orphanage takes in joeys (baby kangaroos) found by the roadside after their mothers are killed by vehicles, and visitors can hand-feed and play with them in the late afternoon.
The art on sale is mostly by Anangu and other Western Desert artists, with prices and provenance clearly displayed. Free entry; the kangaroo feeding sessions usually run around 5pm — call ahead to confirm.
